MICRONEEDLE
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is an innovative, nonsurgical treatment. The device creates hundreds of microscopic channels on the surface of the skin which prompts the skin to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. This results in cell turnover, increased collagen and elastin production, therefore, reversing as well as preventing signs of aging.
WHAT IT TARGETS
The primary appeal of microneedling is its ability to stimulate growth of collagen and elastin which is the key to youthful looking skin. With it’s ability to trigger the generation of new skin cells, a few sessions will noticeably reduce deep wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation issues, crow’s feet and fine lines, and overall skin health. This treatment is not just for the face either, it can be used to transform incision scars and stretch marks as well! During the personal consultation appointment, we can discuss a customize microneedling plan to suite your needs and desired results.
WHO WOULD BE AN IDEAL CANDIDATE?
Unlike lasers, IPL or chemical peels, micro-needling can be used on ALL SKIN TYPES without fear of hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation or burning. It may not be the best option for you if you are pregnant, used Accutane in the past year, have undergone skin radiation in the last 12 months or if you are prone to keloids.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MICRONEEDLE DONE?
While each person’s skin is different, many patients see results after the first treatment Also, depending on the severity of your issues, you may not see results until you have received two or three treatments. Microneedling is cumulative and your skincare professional will work with you to establish a Microneedling treatment plan that addresses your skin’s unique needs.
DOES MICRONEEDLING HURT?
The idea of tiny needles piercing your skin sounds like it would bring a serious ouch factor, BUT you don’t need to worry! The numbing cream applied 30 minutes prior, helps take away what experts agree is minimal pain. Post-procedure there is a bit of pinkness, kind of like a mild sunburn or windburn. Tiny microscopic dry patches, which you can’t see, will come up, only to fade in a few days. The redness and microscopic dry skin can be concealed with a medium coverage makeup during the healing process.
WHAT ABOUT DOWNTIME AND RECOVERY?
The downtime is minimal and you may experience facial redness equivalent to a sunburn for 3-7 days following treatment. You may use a medium coverage makeup to camouflage the redness 24 hours post-treatment. A few days following treatment, your skin will get dry, tight and itchy. Hyaluronic acid, moisturizers, and some antioxidant serums have great properties that assist in healing your skin quicker.
MICRONEEDLING AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
- You may apply make-up for a minimum of 12 hours after the treatment.
- Do not use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for at least 7 days’ post treatment.
- Do not try and scrub the microscopic dead skin off to help heal quicker as this may cause permanent scarring.
- Do not swim for at least 24 hours’ post-treatment to avoid chlorine.
- Do not exercise or do strenuous activity for the first 24 hours’ post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments can be harmful and may cause adverse reactions, due to open pores and bacteria.
- Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for the skin rejuvenation. Use Tylenol only as needed for any tenderness.
